3 Reasons Why you should use a Dermaroller Immediately!

3 Reasons Why you should use a Dermaroller Immediately!

Do Dermarollers Really Work?

Perhaps this year's biggest beauty trend, dermarollers, also known as micro-needling, are celebrated for good reason! Not only does the dermaroller boast different skin benefits such as stimulating it’s healing response, and gently micro-exfoliating the skin.  It also is loved for its ability to boost skincare absorption and efficacy, and encourages collagen and elastic production. We present the 3 (of many) reasons that you should integrate a dermaroller into your skincare routine immediately!!

1. Dermarollers have been Clinically Proven as Effective

Besides being loved by dermatologists, estheticians, and celebrities alike, believe it or not, the research behind the effects of dermarollers on the skin is very promising!  In fact, results of a 2006 study that included biopsies performed on the skin of patients who had been using a dermaroller for 8 weeks found a ‘dramatic formation of new collagen’.  Why is this so important, you ask? Well as we age, the original amount of collagen remaining in our body decreases significantly. For example, at 15 years old, about 50% of the original collagen remains in your body, and at 30 years old, that number has already decreased to 25% And at 45 years old, only 12.5% of the original collagen is present in your skin. The big deal with dermarolling is that it can fool your body into triggering collagen production at a much faster pace than its natural rate of turnover. As if that’s not enough, additional studies in 2008 and 2010 corroborated these results an even suggested positive outcomes for dermarollers and acne scars.

2. A Dermaroller can Reduce Stubborn Acne Scars and Dark Circles

The dermaroller is celebrated for its ability to tackle some of the most difficult skincare issues to treat.  In fact, the dermaroller has been known to help reduce the appearance of acne scars -- even some of most stubborn ones! Dermarollers efficacy in reducing acne scars has been clinically proven in clinical studies, where 86% of patients with grade 1-3 acne scars observed marked improvements after following a dermaroller treatment. As opposed to other alternatives, such as painful lasers and harsh chemical peels, the dermaroller relies on the body's natural ability to heal itself, without damaging the skin.  This translates to hardly any downtime and no side effects.   As well, the price for a dermarolling treatment kit that can treat the appearance of acne scars, like MESO-BRIGHT (129 €) is a fraction of the price than that of a professional treatment.

In addition to reducing the appearance of textured skin, dermarollers are effective at reducing under eye circles.  How, you ask? Celebrity facialist and dermaroller fan Kerry Benjamen explains, “When you see dark circles, you’re actually just seeing the blood pool around your eyes through the skin. By micro-needling and making those tiny injuries in the skin, you’re putting collagen production into overdrive and literally thickening that skin.” Thus, regular dermarolling in that area makes the blood much less visible and fills in those bags and lines, while it’s at it.

3. A Dermaroller has No Side Effects and is Pain Free

It’s those hundreds of micro-needles present on the dermaroller that triggers an effective healing response on the skin.  If you’re anything like us, the word needles can send chills down your spine. But in the case of a dermaroller, it is not only pain free, but without any negative side effects or downtime. Unlike other more painful procedures often prescribed by your doctor, the dermaroller can be applied weekly to the skin and the pressure of the roller altered based on your sensation and needs. We suggest always using a dermaroller sized at 0.1mm. The terrifying ‘Vampire facials’ and blood inducing dermarollers are 0.5mm and larger and can cause permanent damage to the skin when it punctures through. A good rule for selecting a dermaroller is to stay at 0.1mm to ensure real results without the pain (and blood) that other rollers can cause.  The Dermaroller provided in all of Laboratoires Surface-Paris' at-home mesotherapy kits are sized at 0.1mm and include five weeks worth of serum based on your skin’s needs.  Also worth noting, only purchase your dermaroller from a verified high-quality company, as many inexpensive versions are not sanitized and have been know to cause skincare breakouts and negative effects.

The Round Up:

If you can’t tell by now, we think dermarollers are great. Not only do they provide many benefits to the skin (and it’s been proven), they also can get rid the appearance of annoying acne scars and dark circles, which is rarely the case in the world of skincare.  As well, the dermaroller is practically painless, especially if you purchase a high-quality roller of 0.1mm needle length.
